February 25 2023 Workshop
|
In the past, you may have bought a plastic template to make a certain quilt block. Now you can design and make your own curved templates for repeated blocks.
We start with the basics of making templates (from freezer paper!) and move to a confident approach for sewing curved seams (that are flat!). The workshop project is a simple baby quilt filled with easy, repeated blocks—made with your own templates. |

We have enjoyed seeing Bee’s beautiful quilts for years and now she is planning to leave us. Her enthusiasm, dedication, and energy for our Guild has been unwavering. Her departure will certainly be our loss! But, before she goes, Bee has agreed to share a selection of her wonderful quilts with us - live! - and tell us what inspires her quilting choices and her quilting life. Please mark your calendars and join us!

Learn why we are now paying up to $14.00 a yard. It’s all about the fabric industry, about the three types of printed fabrics: batiks, flat printed and digital. Being an Ambassador for Hoffman Fabrics, working with the Hoffman family, pattern designing, curating, setting up their challenge as well as giving warehouse tours, I have lots to share. I think you’ll find this information insightful and interesting. |
Twinkle is both easy to make it and to make it modern with your fabric choices and color blocking. The block is a liberated star. I fell in love with it when I made my super-sized star quilt. No two blocks are alike… different sizes, colors, fabrics, dimensions! This makes it so personal and unique. |

This nonprofit organization is committed to educating the public about the history of HIV/AIDS, honoring those lost to the disease, raising awareness about the ongoing pandemic and giving solace to those who have lost a loved one through the production of quilt memorial panels.
Quilt Project Gold Coast is a locally based nonprofit with an all-volunteer group and no overhead. All funds go directly to displays and HIV/AIDS awareness raising, and our volunteer efforts include information booths, displays at health fairs, churches, synagogues, colleges and festivals, as well as a speakers bureau and our very fun Quilting bees.

Let’s explore the world of quilts that were made with what I call ‘Not Cottons’. When quilters don’t have access to a stash of quilter’s cotton, what do they turn to? This one hour lecture, trunk show and Q & A session shows quilts – antique and modern – made of wool, silk, polyester and more. The trunk show of my own work shows what you can create with neckties, saris, kimonos and other unusual, ‘not cotton’ textiles. |
To prepare for this class, watch these short videos on How to Deconstruct a Necktie and Applying Fusible Interfacing. Many of us have silk treasures from trips abroad, neckties or prom dresses that are too special to cut up so we leave them tucked away in a drawer or box. It’s time to get them out and make something beautiful! This workshop has three elements: You’ll begin by determining the fiber content of your fabrics by using the burn test. We will then cover two very different ways to work with silk: First, a very free, improvisational piecing technique I call ‘Pieces, Pairs and Panels’ and second, a foundation piecing method that gives stability and ultra-precise results, even with the lightest weight silks. Working with your stash, you’ll construct elements in these two techniques that can be combined into a small, pillow-sized finished piece. There is no required kit, but the following will be for sale at the workshop: |

A talented pattern designer and quilt instructor, Giuseppe now shares his love of quilting through his prolific collections. Giuseppe, born and raised in New York, now resides in New England. He is an avid modern traditionalist quilter with a great passion for simple design in bright colors." Instagram: @giucy_giuce |

“Do you have a treasure trove of unused scraps in bins and ziplock bags stuffed in every corner of your sewing space? Do you struggle with what to do with all these special leftovers from your beloved quilts?
Fret no longer, tiny piecing is here!
Giucy Giuce designed the foundation paper pieced Mini Series with scrap busting in mind. These patterns are designed to be made in a variety of sizes, ranging from 1" to almost 8" (some can be made even larger when combined). Join Giucy Giuce as he teaches you all the tips and tricks for tiny piecing success.
These blocks are more than just cute little quilts. Use them to embellish bags and pockets, make holiday ornaments or coasters with them, frame them for your studio... the possibilities are endless! This class is ALWAYS a blast! Don't be intimidated by the size of the piecing. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve with just a little courage. No prior FPP experience required.”

All are invited to attend this Festive Online Event
( Even if you have never attended a zoom event in the past.)The Zoom Holiday party will be Friday, December 22, and will include the Front Porch Festive Quilt Show. This year we are invitingg you to submit one or more quilts that cover holidays of all kinds, and all the days in between.
Part 1: Your Quilt Entries
Be thinking about a quilt (any size) you've made since the beginning of the pandemic. That's the only requirement! This could be a quilt you're still working on or one you want to make between now and December 15. It might be one you finished in March 2020! It's up to you. Again, any size, any theme, any color.Sometime between now and December 15 take two pictures of your quilt - one of the entire quilt and the other a close-up - on your front porch or by your front door. If you live in an apartment and the hallway really isn't conducive to good photos, feel free to take a picture outside in the yard or at the park or wherever. Your front door or porch or out- door spot can be decorated for the holidays or not - up to you!
Send your two photos to: zoom@coastalquilterssb.org by December 15 with the subject, "Festive Quilt Show." We'll compile them into an online show for our Zoom party on December 22!
AND / OR...Part 2: Your Craft Entries
Submit up to 3 ccrafty creations. They can be holiday related... or not! Take two photos of each - one of your entire crea- tion and the other a close-up - in front of your front door or on your front porch, or, in the absence of those, an outdoor spot. Submit those photos to zoom@coastalquilterssb.org by December 15 with the subject “Festive Quilt Show" and we'll include them in our online show on December 22.So you know your assignment, if you choose to accept it... and we hope you will!! Along with every- thing else planned for that online get-together, we think this will be a fun time!
Part 3: Your Bag Exchange
